Our #parrots are what they eat! Rule number one when owning a parrot is to look at their natural diet and how we as owners can replicate it as closely as possible. Straight away it proves very difficult however there are many supplies on the market to help us. These listed items are what I use for my 2 pet cockatiels. #Harrison's pellet super fine adult lifetime Budgie and cockatiel seed mix Millet (treat only) Sprouting seeds Pulses fruit and veg Browse The biggest question I often hear is pellet or seed mixes? Actually, I find a healthy mix of both works best.Parrots need variety in their diets and many of the smaller species such as #cockatiels and #budgies are predominantly seed eaters in the wild. However that doesn't mean we should just feed them seed all the time. The biggest problem with an all seed diet is that parrots just pick out what they like and leave the rest therefore they only eat the fatty items such as sunflower seeds. On a long term basis this could cause health issues.Pellet is a commercially designed food for parrots, there are many different types on the market and it is down to the parrot and owner to find the right type. However be aware of sizes so that your bird can easily eat it as they can be difficult to break. Pellet can also be high in sugar and can affect the hormone levels of a bird so always read the ingredients to see what your feeding. Again only feeding you bird pellet is not good for them long term this is because they contain lots of vitamins and minerals and you may be giving your bird too much of something which can also lead to liver and kidney issues. So to solve the dilemma always give a healthy mix. Always provide your bird with other items such a fresh fruit and veggies, pulses and fresh browse.
